WAYNE COUNTY DISTRIBUTION OF COVID-19 VACCINES
Representatives from Wayne County stated the criteria for communities receiving the vaccine distribution was based upon statistics for the most impacted communities and the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) which ranks a community’s vulnerability based on 15 social factors, including poverty, lack of vehicle access, crowded housing, and groups them into four related themes. Wayne county released a statement on the SVI Rankings, this includes where Van Buren Stands in the ranking and how they intend to move forward.

Leadership in Van Buren Twp will continue working with Wayne County to get vaccine distribution to our community as quickly as possible. “Making sure our community gets our fair share of vaccines is our top priority right now. We will continue to do everything in our power to ensure our most vulnerable residents and essential workers have access to the vaccine. In the meantime, we have been advising our seniors to be proactive with getting registered with the different healthcare systems offering the vaccine and their primary care providers.”, stated Supervisor McNamara.
However, until Wayne County can distribute vaccines to our community, Seniors 65 and up and/or any eligible person in the 1a and 1b Phase of the Michigan COVID19 Vaccination implementation schedule should continue to contact their hospital groups or other vaccine distribution centers such as Meijer.
