Van Buren Township

Iron Belle Trail Groundbreaking at Van Buren Park

On September 27th, Van Buren Township held the groundbreaking of Van Buren Township's Section B of the Iron Belle Trail. This section is 1.25 miles, and runs from the intersection of Rawsonville and Grove Street, and continues into Van Buren Park.

This section will be a larger part of the 7-mile stretch of trail that will run through Van Buren Township, connecting us to the 2,000-mile trail that runs from the Upper Peninsula in Ironwood, Michigan, and extends to Belle Isle in Southeast Michigan.

"Once all sections are complete," said Supervisor McNamara at the event, "we will connect people to parks including Van Buren Park, Pickle Park, Victory Park in Belleville, Riggs Park, and also Lower Huron Metro Park.

Several generous grants have made this project possible from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Parks and Trails Fund and the DTE Energy Foundation. Along with these grants, this project is made possible with these partner organizations:
  • The Michigan Trails Fund
  • The Department of Natural Resources
  • Washtenaw and Wayne County
  • Huron Waterloo Pathways
  • B2B Trail
  • PEA Group
  • The Van Buren Township Board of Trustees
